Libya ordered LISCO to suspend steel production and redirect its captive electricity generation to the national grid amid severe power shortages. LISCO operates more than 1.7 million tonnes per year of DRI/HBI capacity and is an important supplier to Egypt and other MENA markets. A prolonged shutdown could force Egyptian consumers toward Russian replacement material. The disruption comes while regional DRI supply is already constrained and European HBI demand is gradually improving.
