China’s July ferro-chrome production reached approximately 1.02 million tonnes, maintaining strong demand for chrome ore. The UG2/MG index increased to $286 per tonne, while Chinese port inventories declined to 4.58-4.79 million tonnes. Conversely, imported ferro-chrome slipped to $0.97 per lb and stainless-steel prices weakened. Rising South African production may add further alloy supply during the fourth quarter, keeping the ferro-chrome outlook bearish despite firm ore costs.
