Canada announced reciprocal 50% tariffs on US steel and aluminium products from September 8, while derivative products will face a 25% duty. The measures cover approximately C$27.6 billion of imports and follow the collapse of US-Canada trade negotiations. The escalation is expected to disrupt highly integrated North American metals supply chains. Market participants warned that the dispute could increase costs, restrict trade flows and create further uncertainty for steel consumers.
