South African UG2/MG chrome ore rose to $286 per tonne CIF China due to firm smelter demand and expectations of tighter supply. Meanwhile, Tsingshan and TISCO reduced September ferro-chrome tender prices by 100 yuan, reflecting record Chinese production and expected additional South African supply. Chinese spot ferro-chrome remained at 8,100-8,400 yuan per tonne. The divergence showed that strong ore consumption was supporting feedstock prices even as downstream alloy markets weakened.
