The European Commission was expected to present plans for a possible 15% aluminium scrap export duty in September. Such a measure would be the EU’s first duty on aluminium scrap and could significantly affect shipments to India, China and Turkey. EU exports reached 567,000 tonnes during January-May 2026, up 3.8% year on year. European producers support restrictions to retain more recyclable material domestically, although industry representatives have requested a higher 30% duty.
